AT THE FAIR

A Tradition We're Proud to Continue

Last week, Gerber Construction had the privilege of supporting our local 4-H members at the annual animal auction — Thursday evening for the small animals, and Friday evening for the large. Across both nights, we watched young people from our community be recognized for months of hard work: the early mornings, the daily care, and the real responsibility that comes with raising an animal and seeing it through to auction.

This year, Gerber was proud to purchase animals raised by nine local 4-H youth. Congratulations to each of them — their commitment was evident in every animal that stepped into the ring.

WHY WE SHOW UP

More Than an Auction

For Gerber, showing up to the fair isn't a one-time gesture — it's part of who we are. Many members of the Gerber team, along with their children, take part in this very auction every year. This community and this tradition are woven into our roots, and supporting the next generation of young people who are learning discipline, care, and follow-through means something to us on a personal level.

Agriculture and community are the foundation this company was built on. When we invest in 4-H, we're investing in the values that shaped us — and in the kids who will carry them forward.

A LONG-STANDING TRADITION

150 Years of Community at the Osceola County Fair

The Osceola County 4-H/FFA Fair has been a fixture of our region since 1875, marking its 150th anniversary in 2025 — making it one of the oldest continuously running county fairs in Michigan. Held at the fairgrounds in Evart, its mission has stayed remarkably consistent: to conduct a county fair "for the benefit of all our youth." That's a purpose Gerber is proud to stand behind.

4-H is the youth development program of Michigan State University Extension, reaching more than 100,000 young people across the state each year. While the animal auction is its most visible tradition, 4-H is far broader — spanning everything from animals and agriculture to engineering, entrepreneurship, leadership, and the arts. At its heart, it gives young people hands-on experience and real-world skills that prepare them for whatever comes next. Supporting that mission, right here at home, is exactly the kind of investment Gerber believes in.

To the families, the volunteers, and the organizers who pour their time into 4-H all year long — and to every young person who put in the work — thank you for letting us be part of it. We're already looking forward to next year.
